The orange slice was done in a colored pencil workshop with Cecile Baird, author of Painting Light With Colored Pencils. It effectively teaches the techniques of burnishing with color and the dramatic use of light in composing a subject for a finished drawing.

My rendition of jelly beans in a crystal candy dish illustrates the lessons learned in that workshop. Most of a day and over 200 digital photos were used to set up the configuration ultimately used in the painting. |

Who Spilled the Beans? |

The candles picture was developed for use in a beginning colored pencil workshop. It can be produced using only the basic 12-color Prismacolor set. Interestingly, analysis in a paint program detects 109,721 distinct colors.
